5 MUST-TRY DISHES AT SADDAM’S SHAWARMA

Do you love Shawarma? If so, then you must try the Saddam’s Shawarma. Located at Homegrown (right beside Bob’s Café), Lacson St. Bacolod City.

Along with some other bloggers in Bacolod City, I was invited to try the offerings of Saddam’s Shawarma and to visit also the entire Homegrown. While our dinner was sponsored y the place, the words here were entirely mine.

“Homegrown” is an al fresco dining place, usually frequented by yuppies and even students. The place has various concessionaires, which offers various food product lines. Two other  food stalls spotted in the place were Aida’s Manokan, with their famous Bacolod chicken inasal and Lord Byron’s with their famous baby back ribs.

Shawarma  is a meat dish, with an interesting preparation wherein the main ingredient which is the meat  is placed on a vertical spit and roasted. The stacking strips are made alternately  with  fat and pieces of seasoned meat.  The roasting of the meat is made slowly on all sides as the spit rotates in front of an electric burner.

I was quite interested seeing how the shawarma is being cooked. The meat is shaved off the stack with a large knife,  dropping to a circular tray below to be retrieved. Shawarma is eaten with, made up of a sandwich wrap with pita or lavash together with vegetables and dressing. A variety of vegetables come with the shawarma. In the case of Saddam, I have tasted some  onions, tomato, lettuce, and  cabbage among others.

I have not recorded much about their dressings, but I can recall a hot chilli sauce, garlic mayonnaise, I have also tasted in one of the dressings some cardamom, cinnamon and nutmeg.
