6 BACOLAODIAT FESTIVAL COLORFUL EVENTS

It’s Chinese New Year once again! It is of the most awaited festivals in Bacolod City. The inspiration is that of Chinese culture brought about by the migrants in the country and undoubtedly one of the most colorful celebrations year-round. It is the time of happiness and pleasure, like Christmas of Chinese, when the family reunites, dines together, and celebrates the entrance of the “Year of the Sheep”.

Bacolod City has its own version of celebrating  Chinese New –The Bacolaodiat! Bacolaodiat comes from the words “Bacolod” & “Lao Diat” (Fookien word for celebration).

Bacolaodiat Festival is no doubt very colorful and festive. But I have my own personal choices for the events I like best about this festival. Here’s Top on My List Most Colorful Events of the Bacolaodiat Festival:

LANTERN DANCE COMPETITION

The first day of the 2015 Chinese New Year is on February 19, 2015. The first day of the Chinese New year will be celebrated in Bacolod City with a Dazzling Grad Parade and followed by a Lantern Dance parade Competition.

The Lantern Dance Competition is my favorite of all the many highlights of the Bacoladiat Festival. At Lacson Street, Bacolod City the Lantern Dance Competition will take place which is a  combination of Chinese and modern street dance. For this year 8 group will be competing for the championship trophy. The dances will be highlighted with the use of lanterns choreograph to various formations. The best costumes and lanterns of these contingents were judged already last January 31, 2015, but the winners will be announced at the conclusion of the festival.

CHOPSTICKS ALLEY

Any festival will never be complete without food. At the Bacoladiat Festival, Chinese cuisine can be enjoyed at a food walk and night market with colorful kiosks of delicious Chinese food, arts, and crafts with live band performances to entertain the public.

In addition to this, giant Chinese lanterns inspired by the Chinese Zodiac Signs  These lanterns will be officially lighted on February 19, 6 pm at the North Capitol Road.

SYMPHONY OF LIGHTS AND SPARKS

It is common knowledge that the Chinese believe that evil spirits are driven away by loud noise, so Chinese New Year is a very loud celebration.

One can experience the wonderful celebration of the  Bacolaodiat Festival with nightly grand displays of pyrotechnics. Dubbed as the Symphony of Lights and Sparks, these magical display of fireworks will be seen for three consecutive nights from January 19 to 21, 2014.
