Understanding Victoria Peak, Hong Kong

Considered to be the highest elevation in all of Hong Kong Island—but not Hong Kong as a whole—“Victoria Peak/The Peak” offers a breath-taking view of the landmass itself and its surrounding vistas.

Coming from a ground, Hong Kong is as bustling a city as any, filled with people who preoccupy themselves in making a living mixed with tourists who wander about familiarizing its sprawls. But while some foreigners would choose to be adventurous and learn the makeup of the city by not planning ahead and come up with an itinerary, those who have an idea about the Hong Kong Island would know that “The Peak” is a must-visit as a tourist-centered location.

Getting to “The Peak” is a serious journey from the ground towards the constantly increasing heights of the hill where the summit is indeed situated. There are plenty of ways in how people would get to this location which varies from traveling via funicular railway called tram, which is the most convenient option, to riding a bus or, to the able-bodied, by foot as in by trekking.

Although the latter two options are indeed possible as a means of getting to the highest elevation of the island, the real highlight of the experience is arguably in choosing to ride the tram which gives a unique and bizarre insight to Hong Kong Island. As the tram goes on a gradient, whether upward or downward, the surrounding view creates imagery that tricks the mind to something that is not real. However, there is a science that could explain why that is happening.

Yet, reaching the top of “The Peak” is not about an untouched space of land that is the apex of any tall uninhabited mountains. In it lies structures aimed at giving eager visitors incentive for wanting to be in an area which those of the lower terrain do not consider—or, at least, not any more than a curious person would.

Atop “The Peak” proudly stands the “The Peak Tower,” which is an iconic structure in all of Hong Kong Island for its unique and modern design. While, at first glance, the building may seem nothing but a commercial area to cater for weary traveler’s needs after some time of journey upwards, the monumental building also makes as a platform to getting a complete 360 angle view of the scenic areas around the island.

The popularity of “The Peak Tower” is such, many photographs have been developed with either it as the backdrop or it as the footstool to a larger picture that is the picturesque view of the surrounding areas of the Hong Kong Island.

But there are also other venues that are deemed tourist-worthy scattered across “The Peak” such as the “Madame Tussauds” which has been a host to some of the hottest parties in the region involving known celebrities; the “Madness 3D Adventure,” which features an amazing assortment of photo-worthy, “3D-esque imageries” alluding to the life in Hong Kong or elsewhere; and equally as magnificent, is the natural makeup of the island as seen at its many different angles.
