TOP ON MY LIST: WINNERS FOR 2015 ELECTRIC MASSKARA COMPETITION

Masskara Festival is indeed one of the most colorful festivals in the country today.  Apart from the main attraction which is the Masskara Arena and Street Dance Competition, there were many other highlights which fiesta goers can truly enjoy  and one of which was the Electric Masskara.

Electric Masskara… is a night version of the  Masskara Dance Parade. It is a wonderful show of lights and colors wherein dancers wear lighted costumes atop the lighted floats. While this contest was confined on a night parade contest in the previous years, this  2015  an arena competition amongst the dancers were added.  Winners in this competition  were adjudged 40% in their arena performances and 60% in their floats/dances performances.

Back to Back Electric Masskara Champion,Barangay 18 (2014,2015)

This year, the Electric Masskara was held on 2 evenings (October 16 and 17). I was one of the judges  for the first night event with  20 competing Barangays  joining the contest. I must admit, the task was very hard. I was stationed along Lacson Street, which was changed into a party and food ally  this Masskara  season. Thousands and thousands of people were on the street with all the kiosks selling food and drinks. At that place were several  installed stage  with live bands every few  meters.

I need to be on the street and with the crowd because judges  were instructed to really inspect the floats to see various elements. Luckily I was given 3 assistants to help me doing my job. Another bonus for me was the  rain showers  every now and then  brought about  by typhoon Lando. Someone was covering me with an umbrella, but I still start out soaked.  But the rain never stopped the electric masquerade party, people continued to have fun.

2nd Runner-Up: Barangay 10

The parade has arrived at my station almost 10PM already and it proceeded so slowly as party goers would really take chances, to have their selfies with the dancers and the floats. One can never blame the gang, the floats were spectacular and the dancers in LED lighted costumes were very awesome.

Finally, my task was  over and we were able to choose our top 10 finalists who competed again on the second night October 18.

And for this year’s Electric Masskara winners:

Champion :Barangay 18

1st Runner-Up : Barangay 28

2nd Runner-Up: Barangay 10
