Bacoloadiat Festival, the celebration of the Spring Festival which the Filipino-Chinese community of Bacolod City turned into a grand showcase of Chinese culture and history. The festival features Chinese culinary arts, cultural presentations, Lantern Dance Parade, a spectacular display of fireworks and a lot more. While the festival is relatively young, it is already attracting thousands of festivals goers.
BacoLaodiat is derived from the words “Bacolod” and a Fookien word “Laodiat” meaning big celebration.
I was invited once again to be one of the judges for the preliminary selection of the Best Costume and Best Lantern for the upcoming Street Dance and Arena Lantern Dance Competition. For this year eight groups coming from different Barangays and Schools in Bacolod City will be competing in the festival. Each group sent their representative for the preliminary judging. I was amazed seeing the creativity of the designers for making beautiful costumes and lanterns which show significant improvement each year.
Let me share with you a glimpse of this year’s Bacolaodiat Festival with these eight photographs.
