1. Experience Art and Traditions at Tam-awan Village [ Baguio City Tourist Spot ]

One of my favorite destinations in Baguio City is the Tam-awan Village. One of Baguio City’s “newer” attractions, having been created only in 1998 by the Chanum Foundation. Tam-awan Village is situated at the fringes of the metropolis, it is an artist haven set amid a charming collection of Ifugao and Kalinga huts. Getting there may be a little tricky but most of the drivers knew the place, am sure. For a minimum entry fee, you will be able to explore the minor village, which includes an art gallery; a coffee shop; different traditional Ifugao huts and other areas that are utilized for workshops and showings. There were painting exhibits during our last visit.

Getting There

By car — from Burnham Park: take Harrison Road and go up Abanao Road and proceed to Naguilian Road. From Naguilian, turn right to Quezon Hill Road 2, which connects to Tacay Road. On Tacay Road, keep going straight till you reach a fork in the road, Take the road on the left and keep going until you reach Tam-Awan Village.

By taxi cab — simply order the driver bring you to Tam-awan Village, Pinsao Proper. All cab drivers know where Tamawan Village is sited.

By jeepney — take the Plaza-Quezon Hill-Tam-awan jeepney or the Long-long via Tam-awan Jeepney from Kayang Street, behind and above the Baguio City Market.

2. Take in the Cordillera Mountains at Mines View Park [ Baguio City Tourist Spot ]

Visiting Baguio City will never be complete without seeing Mines View Park. One of the oldest attractions in Baguio City, the mines view park is a ridge located at the extreme northeast side of the city, past The Mansion and Wright Park, Mines View Park boasts of a spectacular view of Benguet‘s gold and copper mines and the Cordillera mountains. Today, Mines View Park offers various commercial activities such as the selling of souvenir and pasalubong items like woodworks, knitted wears, one can buy strawberry, up jams, peanut, cashew brittle and many more. Tourists as well have a prospect to throw a photo op riding a horse, or get dressed in full Cordillera regalia — bahag, shield, and spear for the men, tapis for the ladies, vests, and headdresses for both. Several eating establishments can also be found all over the home.

Getting There

By private transportation: From Session Road, climb up and turn to Leonard Wood Road, past Teachers Camp and Botanical Garden, past the Pacdal Rotunda, and travel straight up C. P. Romulo Drive past Wright Park Riding Circle and The Mansion.

By Public Transportation: Public jeepneys are also available using the Plaza-Mines View line. You may also hire one of our many taxis cabs to take you there, and contract the driver by the hour or for the day. If your group is large, it may be more beneficial to rent a jeepney instead.

3. Pick Fresh Strawberries in La Trinidad, Benguet [ Baguio City Tourist Spot ]

One of the most engaging activities when visiting the Baguio City is the strawberry picking at the Strawberry Farm in the nearby La Trinidad, Benguet. An exciting experience for the whole barkada because strawberries are not found in most places in the country. At la Trinidad, Benguet, you get to pick fresh strawberries — right alongside the Ibaloi farmers — to bring home or consume while on vacation.

Getting There

By car: From Session Road, turn right to Magsaysay Road and turn left at the stoplight (to your right will be a Baguio Center Mall). The road you will be on is still Magsaysay Road and this connects the Baguio City to La Trinidad. Simply continue working straight, turning over a vehicle flyover at one spot, until you see the welcome arch of La Trinidad. Keep going a few more kilometers until you see the sign that directs folks to turn left to Strawberry Farm. It is not a very prominent sign, and it should be to your left so just keep looking out for it. After making a left turn, keep going for a few hundred meters more until you see souvenir stalls to your left and the strawberry and flower farms to your right.

By jeepney: If going by public transportation, jeepneys to La Trinidad wait for passengers in the Gen. Luna area near the University of Baguio. Tell the driver to let you off at the Strawberry Farm, cross the road and walk the rest of the way as it’s not that far from the main road.

4. Visit The Philippine Military Academy [ Baguio City Tourist Spot ]

For many times that I’ve been to the Philippine Military Academy until our last family vacation where my niece insisted to see the place as she was dreaming of entering the academy. Baguio City is home to the Philippine Military Academy (PMA). Part of the attraction in the academy is drill exhibitions on weekends and graduation ceremonies at the end of the school year. The manicured grounds are open to the public all year round to see vintage tanks and other historical military weapons.

Getting There

By car — pass through wooded Loakan Road past a fork in the road (to the right will be Loakan Airport), keep going straight until you see the Fort Gregorio del Pilar gate on your right. About 10 km from Burnham Park and Session Road.

By taxi cab — when visitors contract a taxi cab for a day tour of the city, PMA is usually included in the itinerary. One may also take a cab to PMA and back to tour the grounds by car and partially on foot.

By jeepney — take the Plaza-Loakan-PMA jeepney from the Central Business District.

5. Take your Groupie at The Mansion [ Baguio City Tourist Spot ]

I guess most people visiting Baguio City would really drop by the Mansion and have their pictures taken at the gate. The official summer residence of the President of the Philippines, The Mansion is located on the eastern part of the city along the C.P. Romulo Drive and right across from Wright Park. Older than the city itself, the Mansion is easily one of the most visited and photographed landmarks of Baguio.

Getting there

By car — pass through Leonard Wood Road past Teachers Camp and Botanical Garden. When you reach Pacdal Circle, go towards the road which gently climbs uphill that is to the right of the Wright Park Riding Circle. You may park your vehicle on Wright Park Drive, which is direct across the Mansion. See map.

By taxi cab — just tell the cabbie to take you to The Mansion or even “Mansion House.” Taxi rides cost about Php60.00 from Session Road. By jeepney — take the Plaza-Mines View jeepney from the Central Business District, about Php10.00/person

6. Go Boating at the Burnham Park [ Baguio City Tourist Spot ]

Our family had so much fun when went boating at Burnham (Lagoon) Park. Burnham Park, one of the Philippines’ most well known and best-loved parks is located at the very heart of Baguio City. With an area of 32.84 hectares, its central location makes it the most valuable piece of the Baguio real estate.

The ‘mother of all parks’ in the Summer Capital of the Philippines, almost as familiar to Filipinos as Luneta Park in Manila is all other developments like the city’s business center Session Road, Baguio Cathedral, City.

Burnham Park has 12 cluster areas: the man-made lake with rowboats for hire that folks refer to as the Burnham Lagoon; the Children’s Playground; the Skating Rink; the Rose Garden; the Orchidarium; Igorot Garden; Melvin Jones Grandstand; the Athletic Bowl; a Picnic Grove; the Japanese Peace Tower; Pine Trees of the World, and Sunshine Park.

7. Stroll at Camp John Hay [ Baguio City Tourist Spot ]

Camp John Hay’s charm remains the same with its pine tree-lined roads, beautiful landscaping, quaint cottages, and wide-open spaces, Camp John Hay remains a “must visit” for tourists. A beautiful resort in the mountains, it features a world-class competition Jack Niclaus-designed golf course (said to be the only course in the Philippines to have bent grass greens) as well as hotels, a shopping center & a convention center, among other attractions. Located on the southeastern side of the Summer Capital of the Philippines, its Main Gate is now located on Loakan Road, a 5-minute drive from its old location at the Upper Session Road-Loakan Road-South Drive rotunda.

8. Shop at Baguio City Market [ Baguio City Tourist Spot ]

One place I love visiting while in Baguio is Baguio City Market. Just an ordinary public market, but this is where one can find all the best produce and products of the Cordilleras in the Philippines. From fresh vegetables and fruits, this place also offers all kinds of souvenirs you may want from Baguio City. Located in the heart of the city, the market is at the base of Session Road on Magsaysay Avenue, near Burnham Park. Adjacent to it is the Maharlika Livelihood Center that complements the market with boutiques and other specialty shops, money changers, antique dealers, furniture stores, beauty parlors, and other shops.
