1. SHOP AT THE WALKING STREET MARKET

One of the most exciting activities in Chiang Mai especially for the first time travelers is shopping. Being a handicraft capital of Thailand, Chiang Mai produces most of the handicrafts sold all over the country. Most of these handicrafts are sold at the Walking Street Market. One will surely be delighted how cheaply the artisans are selling their products. Painters are also waiting for guests who wanted to have their portraits done at a very low cost.

The place is also known as a Sunday Market as it is only open during Sunday nights starting from 4 in the afternoon until midnight.

The Walking Street Market is found right at the heart of the old walled city area of Chiang Mai. Starting at the Tha Phae Gate and run down at an approximately 1km, full length of Ratchadamnoen Road.  Please remember to bring Thai Baht when you go shopping. Most money changers are close at night, so better have your money changed during the daytime.

 

2. GO CRAZY SHOPPING AT CHIANG MAI’S NIGHT BAZAAR

Another favorite shopping spot in Chiang Mai is the Night Bazaar.  The place is located on the east side of the old walled city. The Night Bazaar is open every day all year round. Unlike the Walking Street Market, there are many money changers even during night time.

6. EXPLORE THE WAT PHRA SING TEMPLE

Wat Phra Sing is a 14th-century Buddhist temple showcasing gold and copper Buddhas, murals & ancient manuscripts. Wat Phra Singh Located just right at the end of walking street market and considered as one of the beautiful spots in Chiang Mai.

7. CLIMB THE WAT PHRA THAT DOI SUTHEP RATCHA WARAWIHAN 

The Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Ratcha Warawihan is a 13th-century Buddhist temple found on top of the hill. Views of Chiang Mai can be enjoyed in some parts of the temple complex. For those who cannot afford some steps to the top, the temple has a tram for a fee.

8. VISIT WAT CHIANG MAN 

The Wat Chiang Man is Chiang Mai’s  oldest temple established in the 13 century. This  Buddhist temple has a gold chedi having the oldest  Buddha & elephant statues was established by the city’s founder, Phaya Mengrai, sometime around 1296.

The Wat Suan Dok is a Buddhist temple located at Suthep Road. The temple is also known as Wat Buppharam or Flower Garden temple.

1o. WAT KET KARAM

Wat Ket Karam is a Buddhist temple established during the era of  Phra Jao Sam Fang Kaen in 1428. The Ket Kaew Chura Manee pagoda is found around the temple. Also, an  old market of the Chinese community is found nearby. The Wat Ket Karam is located along the Ping River. A museum at the temple complex houses antiques and old photos telling the story of the Chiang Mai city.
