Celebrated every 4th Sunday of January, the Dinagyang festival is no doubt one of the most popular and grandest festivals in the country today. Originally known as  Iloilo Ati-Atihan, Dinagyang Festival is an annual religious and socio-cultural gathering in honor of Santo Niño.

When visiting Iloilo City, one must try the seafood and the city’s signature dishes like the La Paz Batchoy. One of the most popular places where people go apart from the modern restaurants of the city is the La Paz Market. At La Paz market you have the option to choose between Netong’s, Ted’s or Deco ’s, three big names when it comes to Batchoy.

At La Paz Market, you will also find the Madge’s Cafe, a family-owned coffee shop that serves native coffee using the traditional method.

When in Iloilo City, take time to stroll along  JM Basa Street, also known as Calle Real. Old structures beautifully restored are lining this historic street, showcasing the architecture during the Spanish and American period.

Statues of females Saints decorated around the church popularized this structure as “the Feminist Church”. The imposing structure was built in 1831.

Another beautiful and significant structure which one should see when in Iloilo City is the Molo Mansion (Yusay-Consing Mansion). The restored house which is facing the Molo Town Plaza and the Molo Church is now turned into a heritage museum.

  1. Miagao Church

One of the Baroque churches in the Philippines, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most beautiful churches in the country having a very intricate designed facade. The clean-looking yellowish-brown color of the church was brought about by the materials used in the construction of the building such as Adobe, egg whites, limestone and coral stones.

This well-preserved Spanish- colonial cemetery was named as a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum of the Philippines.

The place offers basically offers three things for the guests: agriculture, leisure, and pilgrimage. They have some facilities for vacationers like rooms and some other activities to enjoy.

Of course, for many, one of the most interesting attractions of the place is the Pilgrimage Site, which would require you to take 462 steps to reach the focal point.  For those who don’t have to power to do the climb, they can opt to take a golf cart at PH150 ( for 3 persons).

Another beautiful place worth to visit in Iloilo City is the Camiña Balay nga Bato. The imposing structure was built between 1860 and 1865.
