MARIA ANGELA CLARISSE ROXAS ESTIOKO,2016 MQ CANDIDATE NUMBER 5

RIVERSIDE COLLEGE – BACOLOD

“A smooth sea never made a rough sailor. ” This is the quote that I live by. I’ve always believed that behind every successful person are lots of sacrifices, hard work, perseverance amidst hopelessness, and sometimes, failure. My name is Maria Angela Clarisse Roxas Estioko. You may call me any nickname that you wish because with a name that long, you could come up with a lot of nicknames but most of my friends and relatives call me “Gel” or “Anj”. I was born on April 12, 1999, and I am now 17 years old. I graduated elementary and high school from Bacolod Tay Tung High School. So yes, I know a bit of Chinese.

Maria Angela Clarise Estioko was declared 2016 Masskara Queen First Runner-up 1st Runner-Up. She also won the  Miss Teleperformance, Miss Olay, Miss Photogenic, and Darling of the Press Awards.

I call myself an ” experience hoarder” and a risk taker because I like trying new things, all for the thrill of it. I grew up shy and with stage fright so I mostly joined group contests such as group dancing, choral singing, or verse choir. I was also a member of a lot of clubs back in high school days such as our school newspaper, our math and science club, our home economics club, and our theatre guild. I was also a part of Bacolod City‘s representatives for RSPC 2015.

Somehow, I faced my fear of the stage by joining individual contests such as the English Declamation Contest in my former school last 2012, which I got 2nd place in and being part of the finalists for ABSCBN Newscasting competition for two consecutive years. I am always active when it comes to extracurricular activities with a passion for the main reason that I want the experience, the memories, and the friendships formed along the way. It’s okay if I win or lose because I easily accept defeat as long as I know that there is fair play. But this kind of attitude doesn’t keep me from doing my best and trying to win every contest that I’m in. Aside from all of these, I also went to Xiamen, Fujian, a province in China, for an educational tour last 2012. I consider this an achievement because I was only 12 that time, yet I was able to survive to live in a foreign country with only a few of my schoolmates for two months.

I am currently a 2nd-year college student taking up Physical Therapy at Riverside College, Bacolod City. This is a totally different career path based on my high school experiences. But as what I’ve said, I like trying new things and I don’t let my limitations stop me. And besides, I’ve always wanted to be a medical professional. My course made me focus on my academics more and I got an Academic Proficiency Award for my performance in the last academic year. I am fixated on my main goal, which is to graduate from my course with flying colors, but contests such as this wouldn’t hurt because I love experiencing new things and testing my limits. Honestly, this is my first time to join a prestigious contest such as this and I am both scared and excited for the outcome. Despite this being my first time to join a beauty pageant, what gives me an edge over the other contestants is that I was holistically developed and well experienced when it comes to extracurricular activities. I was not only made for the glitz and glamour of a beauty pageant but for other noble responsibilities as well. As a Bacolodnon, I deeply care about the city that I was born in and it would be a huge honor for me if I would be chosen as the ambassadress for this city. One day, I’d like Bacolod to be head to head with progressive cities such as Manila and Cebu and hopefully, surpass it. Dream big, they said. That’s what I’m doing right now
