5 FAVORITES AT PERI-PERI CHARCOAL CHICKEN

Bacolodnons have been enjoying the taste of Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken for the past three years. Recently, they moved to a new location on the ground floor, North Wing of SM City Bacolod which I can say is more convenient and has a bigger dining area.

We were delighted to take part in its opening where some members of Negros Bloggers and print media were invited. We were welcomed by Ms. Darry Demetillo (Manager) and Mr. Paul Limsiaco, a young entrepreneur who is the sole owner of this franchise. He is a Culinary Arts graduate from the University of St. La Salle. Paul was very accommodating and he also shared with us his views about his business. He mentioned that they have reduced the prices of their food and created more set meals so students and young professionals can enjoy what Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken can offer.

Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken & Sauce Bar’s   Ambiance

Honestly, I love Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken’s new look. I’ve visited other branches and I must say, the one in SM Bacolod looks comfier and beautifully designed. Decorative tiles, wooden tables, and cushioned chairs make the place appear sophisticated yet affordable. It also has touches of green and the walls are painted in earthy colors which gives it the warm feeling of the home.

It’s in the sauce…

I had my first Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken experience in Manila so I am already aware that their chicken is cooked the Portuguese way, char-broiled, so all the flavors and spices are locked in. With our visit to Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken SM Bacolod, I had again tasted their delicious chicken and his time they added some twist to complement the flavor by adding the sauce bar. As we all know, Filipinos, in general, are so into dipping sauces (sawsawan), in fact, it has already become a part of our food culture.

At Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken, their dipping sauces come in tall labeled bottles. Customers may want to combine the sauces or just choose one that suits their taste to go with the char-broiled chicken. You may try Mesquite BBQ (smoky, sweet, tangy), Garlick Brew (garlicky, spicy) Hoisin Sesame (sweet, tangy with a hint of spice) Harissa Exotica (exotic blend of spices), Sweet Soy (sweet teriyaki style) Chilli Peppah (fiery & hot) Honey Pinakurat (Filipino spiced vinegar), Cajun Remoulade (spiced mayonnaise), Personally, I like the Garlick Brew and Honey Pinakurat. Both are spiced up but not fiery. It complements the tangy and flavorful chicken taste.

Of course, I also listed the top favorites that I recommend you must try:

Peri-peri Charcoal Chicken

1.) Chicken Rio– 1 whole char-broiled chicken, cut in half and flattened. Served with java rice, vegetable side dishes, and soup. Good for -2-3 persons. (P585)

Peri-peri Charcoal Chicken

2.) Grande Chicken Burger– When I was told that the chicken burger is big, I thought of the usual large burger size you see in other hamburger stores.
I was amazed at how huge the chicken burger was when it was presented to us! It comes with a side dish of sweet potato chips that we all dug into. It was really good. What I like about it that its huge size doesn’t compromise the flavor. The chicken patty used is char-broiled too, not fried so juices are locked in and not oily. This juicy patty is topped with your favorite partners- lettuce, tomatoes, and tangy Cajun dressing. Good for 3- persons. (P285)

Peri-peri Charcoal Chicken

3.) Baby Back Ribs– tender ribs, marinated, slow-cooked and char-broiled. It has a rich smoky flavor, I’m sure meat lovers will like. A slab of ribs comes with java rice, vegetable side dishes, and fries. This serving is good for 3-4 persons.
(P280)

Peri-peri Charcoal Chicken

4.) Peri Chori-Nachos– everybody’s pica-pica before the real meal. Nacho chips topped with fresh tomato salsa, chorizo, cream, and chopped onions. (P285)

Peri-peri Charcoal Chicken

5.) Rib Platter– tender ribs marinated, slow-cooked and char-grilled with a smoky, BBQ flavor you will love. Served with java rice, salad, corn and carrots, fries. Good for 3-4 persons. (P749)

Other food choices include chicken & rib meal, salad, pasta dishes like shrimp Aglio olio, chorizo Bolognese and carbonara. Aside from chicken, they also have crispy fish sticks, parmesan-crusted shrimp and more.

You may visit Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken at SM Bacolod, which opens daily from 10 am to 9 pm.
