3 WAYS TO ENJOY SALVADOR BENEDICTO ON A DAY TRIP

The Municipality Salvador Benedicto (DSB) is a fourth-class municipality in the province of Negros. It is also called a “little Baguio of Negros” because of its temperature of around 23°C. The road of Salvador Benedicto has four lanes that are wide and cemented; suitable for cars and motorcycles equipped with accessories from Blackboxmycar.com. Approximately 46.8km will the journey from the City of Bacolod via Negros Occidental Eco-Tourism highway to this beautiful paradise. The road to Salvador Benedicto is clean and surrounded by flowering plants. This way seems to be less traveled for it is curvy and very tricky for drivers but is more fun for all skaters.

SALVADOR BENEDICTO

Salvador Benedicto

This small town is surrounded by mountains of green and tall trees most of which are pine trees making it look so fresh and refreshing. The cloud formations are spectacular as long as rain would not be pouring, and sometimes they envelop the green mountains which would make one feel like you are living with the Greek gods and goddesses. A rural life that appreciates beauty and aesthetics would be perfect in describing the place from the time it welcomes you until it leads you to another town in the boundary of Negros Occidental and Oriental. Sugarcane and pineapple plantations can also be seen along the sides of the mountains you will pass through along the sides of the highway. Sugarcane is one of the products Negros is known for with different delicacies produced from this alone. You will be mesmerized by what this municipality can offer, and it does not only let one see the beauty of nature, but the people make the place even more complete.

1.) Doc J’s Place

You can have a stopover or break and have a coffee bonding at Doc J’s Place. A peaceful and pleasant place to unwind which would seem to be a restaurant along the highway but not only that of what people expect, Doc J’s Place offers food that is good for the health. They serve fresh vegetables, tea, and coffee. At the entrance of Doc J’s, you could check or buy some of their cool stuff that represents the culture of the municipality like shirts and fruits native to the place. Doc J’s has many nipa huts around where you can take your breakfast on a morning trip. The huts are surrounded by colorful flowers, butterflies, and native trees. A very nice ambiance to dine indeed. Doc J’s serves a lot of food from homemade chorizo to tapa, chicken pork adobo, boneless bangus, fried chicken, vegetable soup, chop suey, pansit, and a lot more. They also serve sandwiches, burgers, and bread which are perfect to eat with coffee or tea. The coffee is native to the place which is why it’s not that common in taste and tea that is made from the extracts of herbs planted in the area. They also have desserts like halo-halo, fruit shakes, and their very tasty homemade ice cream not to mention it’s made for health.
While waiting for the food or coffee to get cooked, you may roam around the gardens, enjoy the views, and feel the cool breeze of the air. Servings of the food are good for one, but there are other orders which can be shared. Just let the cook and assistant know what you prefer to have, they are very hospitable in assisting your needs. Most tourists love their food and drinks in general. Doc J’s Place also offers rooms for an overnight stay in case travelers are caught in the middle of the road at midnight and decide to take some rest.

2.) The Lion’s Statue

Salvador Benedicto has its little version of a lion statue just like in Baguio City. This statue is at the community center and was constructed by the Bacolod City Lions Club in partnership with the Kaohsiung Port Lions Club of Taiwan and the Ichon Lions Club of South Korea. The lion statue stands 10 feet and symbolizes the logo of the Lions Club International. Just beneath the statue is a viewing deck where you can see the beautiful rice terraces and the relaxing flow of water into a small river.
While enjoying the view, you may enjoy some delicious snacks like chicha corn, banana chips, fish crackers, and peanuts that are being sold along the highway most of which are just near this statue. The lion statue is now getting the attention of tourists, bloggers, and even locals for they are excellent to be seen in pictures posted on social media. It becomes a trademark where tourists and travelers stop by and have a souvenir photo.’

3.) Malatanog Falls

Want an escape from a busy and polluted city life? Are you adventurous? You must visit the pride of Don Salvador Benedicto, the Malatan-og Falls! After an hour of a long drive with friends, families, or loved ones from Bacolod City, you could witness a breathtaking and stress-relieving view of Malatan-og Falls, also known as the “Cigarette Falls” on the viewing deck or what Hiligaynons called, “lantawan.” It is located on the roadside of  Salvador Benedicto. Also, a great and beautiful place to take some selfies! From a long and tiring trip, you could also refresh yourselves by eating some of their delicacies, (chichacorn, banana chips, etc.) Very delicious! A five-minute way back from “Lantawan”, you could see the entrance of Malatan-og Falls. Before entering there, make sure you’re ready for a long trail to the falls. For newcomers and tourists, Malatan-og Falls has a tour guide to help you get yourselves there safely. Better do some stretching before entering the trail. When you are on your way to the trail, you should get ready for some muddy and slippery trails. You better walk safely and slowly, or you might fall to the cliffs or might get lost. You should expect approximately 30 to 40 minutes walk to the falls. Along the way, there are a lot of views and scenery that might make you fall in love with the place. You could also enjoy seeing some wild monkeys hanging around the trees freely. Just watch them, don’t hurt them. By the way, while going down to the falls. You must be very responsible for your trash and garbage. Honestly, it is a very tiring walk along the way but, the cool breeze of the air, and the breathtaking scenery could take it all away, especially when you can hear the splash of the water from the falls becomes louder, which means this is it! When you reach the falls, all you can say is ” It’s worth it!” The beautiful view, and the clear and cold water at Malatan-og Falls, are very exciting! You could enjoy swimming in the freshest and most frigid water in a pool-shaped area under the falls. Feel the relaxing and refreshing splash of the waterfall through your body! If you feel hungry, you could also bring some fish, chicken, or meat to grill! Eating freshly grilled meat with a very nice ambiance. What a great feeling! You could also bring some beers and wines to be more relaxed! But, don’t drink too much. Remember, there’s another trail waiting for you to get back to the road!

After hours of enjoying, take another stretch and get ready for another trail back. Make sure, you start the trail before it gets dark. You might get lost in the dark. On the trail back to the road, you might feel it becomes much harder than you past trail because the way becomes upwards. Climbing and walking upwards on a slippery trail is very tiring, but you could still enjoy it! Very thrilling and exciting! When you already got up there, you might feel some body pain, but all you could say is, “That was awesome!”. It might be another lifetime experience that you won’t forget! Great memories with friends or families!

How to get there:

The faster route would be riding a Bus (Ceres) which would take around 2 hours before you reach some places to take selfies with. Economy Class Buses (non-air-conditioned) cost Php 100.00 per ride while on Business Class Busses (air-conditioned) the cost might be doubled due to convenience and fewer bus stops. These buses are available at the Bus Terminal located at Southbound, Shopping of Bacolod City. Take note that there is no finite terminal where you can get off, but rather you may choose a place where you want to see first. If you happen to have a private vehicle, it will take an hour and 30 minutes.

  10. I think we all have a beautiful place in our mind. I have a wonderful place that made me happy a lot of times, years ago. But sometimes I think that I am the only person who likes this place and I’m asking myself if this place will be as beautiful as I thought when I will go back to visit it again. Perhaps I made it beautiful in my mind.
