7 STREET FOOD KIDS LOVE

STREET FOOD  KIDS LOVE

Street Food is part of the Philippine culture. Every day we see street food vendors lined the streets. From the famous Philippine balut to peanuts or Mani to barbecue stalls and much more.

The majority of the Filipinos am sure had somehow tried some street food in their lifetime. I grew up seeing street food and buying some of these from time to time. I have my favorite  street food as well. In my attempt to list various street food found in the country, I realized that I need to do it by groups.

For the first group, I have listed STREET FOOD KIDS LOVE.

  1. SORBETES OR DIRTY ICE CREAM

Top on my list is the “sorbetes” or dirty ice cream. I don’t know why it is called dirty Ice Cream, but when I was a kid, I would wait for the sorbetero to pass by our house. Today, we would still hire the sorbetero whenever there is a kiddy party at home because kids love “Sorbetes”.

Cotton Candy – Street Food Kids Love

  1. COTTON CANDY

Who hasn’t tried the cotton candy when they were kids. I love cotton candy, its colorful and it’s fun! Pink is the most common color of cotton candy, but today cotton candy comes in a variety of colors making it more attractive for the kids.

  1. PANCAKES

The pancakes in the streets would always look yummy because they do the cooking right at their stalls. The aroma smells so good, especially when they brushed it with margarine and sprinkled with sugar.

  1. PALAMIG (COLD BEVERAGES)

Cold Beverages are found everywhere. Sago and Gulaman, Buko with Ice, Pineapple Juice and much more. When I was a kid, I would buy Palamig on the street, though I knew that even the pineapple juice was given a pinch of yellow food color.

Ice Scramble – Street Food Kids Love

  1. ICE SCRAMBLE (ISKRAMBLE)

When I was a kid Ice Scramble is one of my favorites. During those times, Ice Scrambles has no toppings nor other flavorings, except for some food coloring and vanilla. But it was my favorite when I was a kid and during those times nothing beats slurping a cup of Ice Scramble, especially during summer time.

Today, Ice Scramble was given more life with different kind of toppings like chocolate chips, candy sprinkles and much more.

  1. PEANUTS (MANI)

One of the most classic foods found in the streets are peanuts, whether steamed, salted, greaseless, skinless, coated or baked. Kids love peanuts coated with caramel maybe because it is sweet. In my college days, peanuts were one of our favorite snack items, especially when we don’t have the money to buy expensive burgers. Spicy salted peanuts go very well with a cold soda.

  1. POPCORN

Popcorn stalls pop everywhere. I love the color of popcorn; it’s so festive… and when I was a kid, I would buy it often though I don’t find it tasteful. But today, popcorn comes in various flavors like barbecue, cheese, spicy adobo and much more.

Appeal to the City Health Office or any Government Agencies Responsible:

Since a lot of people are patronizing street food. It would be a lot better to see government agencies doing the licensing and inspection to make sure that these food are appropriately prepared to minimize contamination and spreading of diseases.

Disclaimer:

This article does not in any way promote street food to be suitable for the children.
