Note: This article, “Tips in Accomplishing Your New Year’s Resolution” was featured at The Morning Show of ABS-CBN Bacolod.

New Year’s Resolution is always a trending topic each time the year ends or at the start of the new year. Being a travel blogger and a trainer myself, I also received some inquiries from my followers in the social on media on tips in accomplishing a New Year’s Resolution.     I listed below 9 Tips in Accomplishing New Year’s Resolution.

TRAVEL BLOGGER’S  9 TIPS IN ACCOMPLISHING YOUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION

1. Concentrate on one or two resolutions, rather than several. Sometimes, we overwhelmed ourselves with too many goals only realizing in the conclusion that it all remained as wishes. As a travel blogger, there are so many places on my bucket list that I wish to visit in the near future. But considering the budgetary constraint, I knew very well that I cannot visit all these places soon. So I am resolved that I will be visiting at least  1 place in the country for the first half of this year, including those that are found in our own Province Negros and 1 Asian Country every other year. If I can have more countries or local places to visit at this period, it will only be a bonus.

2. Make it SMART. (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Result- oriented, Time-bounded) Losing weight is not a specific goal. Losing 10 pounds in 90 days would be. Now, if you want to display your body comes to summertime, you can say probably that you will lose 3 pounds a month so that by April you can already say that you are “confidently beautiful with a curve”.

3. Renew your commitment daily. Change must be a constant process and does not happen only each time the year ends.

4. Take it piece by piece. Take small steps. Many people quit because the goal is humongous requiring too big a step all at once.

5. Get a buddy. Going to the gym, for example, can be boring and you might find yourself quitting before hitting your goal. Having a buddy who knew about your goal will serve as your accountability buddy to remind you each time you tend to fall back.

6. Celebrate your little successes. The little accomplishment you did in relation to your goals will help you keep inspired. What I like most about blogging is, I can easily broadcast whatever good feeling or success I had through my blogs.

7. Change your mental program. Your negative thoughts or poor self-concept can be a hindrance towards the accomplishment of your goal. Many people fail with their goals because they begin on a negative note.  I always dreamt of traveling alone, experiencing what would it be like as a solo backpacker. But I was always doubtful, thinking it might be boring. So last December, I decided to go on solo at Siquijor to experience the place and to experience what would it be like if I travel solo. The experience was great and I have just broken a negative paradigm about traveling alone.

8. Focus on the present. What is that one thing that you can do today, right now, towards your goal? As one author puts it, “Yesterday is but a dream and tomorrow is only a vision…so live for today for this is life.”

9. Make it fun! Any difficult goal is doomed to fail if you don’t enjoy the process.

So there you are my friends, the 9 Tips for accomplishing your New Year’s Resolution.   Thank you for being part of my 2015 journey.
